National Junior College strongly supports energy conservation and keeping the environment green. In 2005, we were awarded the Schools’ Green Audit Lotus Award for our continued commitment in energy conservation, environmental awareness and green initiatives. This is the highest award a school can achieve.
The Greenlink Club is the prime mover of our College’s conservation efforts. The club regularly liaises with external environmental conservation groups such as Singapore Environment Council, Northwest CDC and Green Volunteers’ Group to embark on environmental and conservation projects.
One of the key green-conscious events on our college calendar is Earth Week, where a week-long exhibition on environmental conservation as well as games and competitions are held to inculcate green awareness into our students. Besides expeditions and visits to remote communities, nature guiding to bring about awareness of vegetation in places like Pulau Ubin is also conducted regularly for our students. In addition, our college has perennial green activities like recycling programmes, river keeping and a spice garden project to maintain the green-consciousness of our students.
Green Link Club has been highlighted in the news as the club that has made conscious effort to propagate knowledge and skills in vermicomposting. In 2017, Green Link Club conducted 5 DIY worm factory workshops to teach NJC, PAACT, Watten Estate, kindergarten participants how to make their own mini-worm factories suitable for their kitchen use.
