Special Programme in Inquiry Research (SPIRE)

The Special Programme in Inquiry REsearch (SPIRE) grounds students in the foundation and mechanics of research. Critical reading of academic literature, crafting of a research problem via close analysis of the knowledge schema in a particular academic field, designing experimental protocol and composing a purposeful proposal are the main elements in the first phase of SPIRE, SP201. In the second phase, viz. SP301, students carry out experimental work, present their findings continuously throughout the year to peers, and finally draft a research paper and poster to communicate their work to a wider audience. All SP301 research papers are published in the annual SPIRE Proceedings; a selection of these is published in a special edition that is placed at the National Library.
