Junior College (Direct School Admission) Selection Criteria
DSA-JC Selection Criteria
Applicants will be shortlisted and selected based on the following general criteria:
- Demonstrate passion for and commitment to the area of interest;
- Exemplify positive character traits, including resilience, motivation and integrity; and
- Display a commitment to contribute to the school, through the area of interest as well as other opportunities to serve.
In addition, each talent area has specific criteria as shown below. Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee that the applicant will be shortlisted or given an offer.

1. Art Elective Programme |
(1) Innovative traits (curiosity, creative thinking,
problem solving ability) Email to: njc_aep@moe.edu.sg Shortlisted applicants will attend a face-to-face session to complete an artmaking task (with stimulus provided), an art writing task and an Art conversation with the art teachers. All art materials will be provided. Duration: approximately 120 mins. |
Students admitted through Art Elective Programme must offer H2 Art. This is an examinable A-Level subject. |
2. Malay Language Elective Programme (MLEP) |
(1) At least a ‘B3’ in HML/ ‘A2’ in ML/ ‘B4’ in HML
AND
‘B3’ in Malay Literature [full/elective] (based on Sec 3
or 4 school assessment) |
Students admitted through MLEP must offer H2 Malay Language & Literature. This is an examinable A-Level subject. |
3. Tamil Language Elective Programme (TLEP) |
(1) At least a ‘B3’ in HTL/ ‘A2’ in TL (based on Sec 3 or
4 school assessment) |

4. Science Training and Research Programme |
(1) Demonstration of knowledge, clear motivation,
interest and passion in STEM Research and Innovation Candidates will undergo a two-phase shortlisting process. In the initial phase, the school's admission team will reach out to applicants in mid to late June to request their portfolios. Portfolio Submission Guidelines (submit as 2 separate PDF documents):
Phase 1 shortlisted applicants will then be invited to participate in an interview. |
Students admitted through DSA Research must undertake research project(s) in NJC and apply for H3 Science Research. This is an examinable A-Level subject. |
